Here's a very nice original Singer treadle sewing machine for sale. The serial number is EB258836, making it a 1937 Model 15K.
It's in unmolested condition and has been treated to a sympathetic restoration recently.
The treadle, stand, assembly and mechanism has been cleaned, checked, painted and re greased where necessary and a new leather drive belt has been fitted as the original had rotten away.
The cabinet has been cleaned to remove stains and surface imperfections but retaining the patina built up over the last 80 years. It has two small storage drawers to the left and right and a long slim drawer in the centre. These are all well preserved though a little of the veneer is lifting slightly on the left hand drawer. Apart from that, all the hinges are intact and tight, the top folds and the machine rises and sits nicely and returns to it's storage position with no issues whatsoever.
Overall the sewing machine itself was in excellent fettle but again, the mechanism has been cleaned and lubricated where necessary so it now operated once more as it did when it left the factory but it's not been polished so still retains the smell and feel of an old machine.
Machines such as this are frequently found to have been modified to accept an electric motor but this shows absolutely no sign of this - it's always been a treadle operated machine and it remains so, authentic in every way. The only items it's had added are some 1950's casters to move it about. These could be easily replaced with more period accurate examples or removed altogether though that would render it somewhat immobile and it's pretty heavy!
This would look fantastic in a period interior but also has the advantage that it can be used everyday. The cabinet in itself looks wonderful with it's dark finish through years of polishing and care!
This is a very fine old thing but sadly I no longer have room for it so it must go, so..........
