Description
With a heavy heart the time has come to sell my BMW e38.
I will try to cover as much as possible in this ad as to not waste mine/your time with unnecessary questions.
2000 BMW 728i Sport
211,000, not in use anymore so will not rise, is SORN'd and stored currently.
Mot until 12th Feb 2017
I have owned this car for nearly 2 years and in that time it has been my daily driver. It has always had everything it needed in this time with a folder of receipts from my ownership. Unfortunately I can no longer keep up with the maintenance it needs to carry on justifying driving it daily, so I have bought a newer car. I would love to keep it but with 2 other projects I cannot justify it.
The car is listed as spares or repair and will be sold on this basis for the following reasons: it has developed a lack over power below 3k rpm, above this it pulls just as it should, I have replaced the intake cam position sensor and vanos seals trying to remedy this but with no luck, I have a brand new genuine crank sensor which will go with the car but I simply so not have anymore time to keep spending on this car. I believe it must be the crank sensor as the car does occasionally take longer to turn over before starting, but never fails to start. The car also has a belt squeal which I have not had the time to look into. It also has a few niggly faults mentioned below. The car still drives and runs and I have been using it every day up until around a month ago so you will be able to drive it away if you would like to.
Exterior:
The car is finished in one of the rarest of e38 colours of imola red, the paintwork is in keeping with the age and mileage of the car. It polishes up very nicely but does have the usually marks/a few dings as to be expected, it has two small spots of rust, no larger than a 50p piece. I have had various parts of the car resprayed during my ownership, boot, wing and a few other bits. It also has a US front and rear plate holder fitted, I fitted these when I had the boot resprayed as I prefer the look, I have the original front plate holder. Genuine m-parallel wheels with near new Goodyear eagle f1 rear tyres.
Interior:
Black heated electric contour sports seats.
Original BMW mats in good condition for the age.
Electric rear blind and manual side blinds.
Sports steering wheel.
Black alcantara headliner.
There are a few things on the interior which would require attention to make perfect, the cupholder and glovebox latch are broken, very common, I've replaced the cupholder once but it has broken since. The ashtray lid also does not slide fully closed.
Mechanicals/electrical:
As mentioned above the engine has a lack of power issue, I have a printout of fault codes which can be seen. Before this the engine pulled excellently and still does at the top end. It has pretty much full service history, stamped book until 174k, and I have serviced it twice, most recently in February of this year, which also included plugs and coolant. CCV system and rocker gaskets have also been replaced recently.
It also has an lpg conversion fitted, it is wired and plumbed in but requires the tank, lines and filler fitting to finish off. I've never done anything with this and was intending on removing it but I have the tank and filler there to go with the car.
Suspension/brakes:
The suspension has had a lot of work over the time I have owned it, front and rear discs and pads in the last 12 months, track arms, multiple arms/bushes, new brake lines all round for MOT. It needs a new front O/S abs sensor as it occasionally brings the abs lights onto the dash, this has been highlighted in the fault code printout.
4-pot brembo brakes.
Overall the car does need some tlc to make it perfect again, it mainly just needs time which is something I can't currently spare a lot of.
If it does not sell or I do not get a reasonable enough price for it I will break it, it is worth £2k+ in parts, ideally I would like to avoid this as it is a great car and rare in this colour.
I have tried to cover everything in this ad so you know what you are buying but there is no doubt I will have missed something so please feel free to get in touch with any questions or come and view the car. But please no time wasters, only get in touch if you are genuinely interested in buying and have read the ad.
