Description
Bought this recently with plans to use it over winter as a runabout - however, unfortunately the previous seller wasnt completely forthcoming about the condition of the car or its flaws.
I dont have the time to deal with getting this up to the standard i'd hoped it was already at so just looking to move it along - hopefully my advery is a bit more informative and honest than the last seller's was.
I'm listing this as being for spares or repair as it currently has no MOT (Expiry 16th September) and a few niggly issues which i'll detail below - however I will stress that the car does start run and drive.
122k on the clock, just out of MOT on the 16th September.
The Good:
- The car drives as it should, no nasty noises or clunks and the engine sounds spot on. Pulls well and drives how you'd expect a GTi 180 to drive.
- Recent timing belt
- New battery fitted
- Oil looks nice and fresh.
- Usual GTI 180 toys, electric folding mirrors, traction control, auto wipers, GTI180 half leather bucket seats
- Morette headlights
- Stainless steel rear section of exhaust.
- Aftermarket air filter
- Remote central locking with working fob.
- V5 present and in my name.
The Bad:
- No documented service history with the car.
- Airbag Fault message appears from time to time. Some googling suggested this might be as a result of a poor battery. I replaced the battery however this hasnt resolved the problem.
- Passenger side electric window is somewhat temperamental. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, sometimes it seems to have a mind of its own. Havent looked in to whats causing this, but a replacement motor and regulator seems to be available for circa £25 on ebay.
- Cooling fan problem. A common problem with these cars - unfortunately it appears that a previous keeper has done a bit of a butchers job on the wiring for the cooling fan, meaning that it now only comes on by using a switch manually - strangely, the switch for the fan is the front fog lights. Wouldnt have been my choice of fix I must admit, but it works. Down side is that there are now no front fog lights, and you need to have the side lights on to operate the fan. I have replaced the low speed resistor, and will include two brand new relays if someone wanted to take on putting the wiring back to how it should be.
- I've no idea what the car will or wont need for an MOT (previous seller assure me he was confident it would sail through an MOT - i'd take that with a pinch of salt though).
- Car WILL need a fuel tank strap for its MOT I do know that to be a fact - however I've bought the part from Peugeot and it will either be fitted if I have time or will come with the car.
- The brakes work, but the pedal isnt great, theres a lot of travel before you actually get any braking. I suspect the brakes just need bled properly - which is known to be tricky on these cars due to the abs / tc pump. Plenty life in the pads etc and the car does stop ok when you take up the free play.
The Ugly:
- Drivers seat is badly worn and is missing a fairly big chunk of alcantara at the bottom of the upright. Doesnt affect the functionality of the seat and its still very comfy to sit in and supports in all the places it should - its just a bit unsightly to look at. Complete interiors in good condition can be had on ebay (I priced one 90 miles away at £130 for all seats front and back).
- The passenger side morette headlamp has a crack on the outer lens. Glass is all still there and the light works exactly as it should, but just being honest about its condition.
- Alloy wheels have seen better days. All hold air fine etc - they are just a bit tired looking.
- Bodywork isnt exactly A1 condition, few marks here and there as you'd expect for a 12 year old car selling for this price.
I've tried to be as honest and upfront about the car as I possibly can so at least the new owner knows what they are getting. I've detailed everything I know about the car. I cant guarantee that the list is comprehensive, but I can assure you i've listed everything i'm aware of.
Car is priced taking in to account all the faults i've detailed above and is currently the cheapest one I can see in the country, so please - no silly offers. With an MOT and the issues resolved this car is worth easily double the asking price.
Please check you can afford to tax and insure the car BEFORE making any enquiries. They are fairly hefty on both insurance on tax.
No timewasters or dreamers please. The car is what it is and thats a £700 GTI180 - dont expect it to be something its not.
